FFAC Recap: Week 7 - Just Do It

Merriam-Webster defines resilience as the capability of a strained body to recover its size and shape after deformation caused especially by compressive stress. It also defines inconsistency as a lack of consistency. And damn if these recaps aren’t going to be both. The interesting thing about it, though, is that both of those words can also apply to many of our own fantasy seasons so far. So, even as the Sunday morning London game proceeds (and one commissioner should be packing for a trip), I am here to deliver the goods. It’s the Week 7/Week 8 recap/preview/in real time write up.

Recap

I’ll keep it short and tight because games are underway as I mentioned. Still, at the midway point through the season it’s a good time to give an overall picture of the league. And boy are we in a tight race so far. Besides Fireball & Ben whom are both sitting very comfortably at the 1 & 2 with their 6-1 records, everyone else is basically neck in neck. Hell, even Spencer, Alex & myself are technically still in the race thanks to all the 3-4 records. Now I know Stefan is also 5-2 but only 6th in overall points scored so that margin is much closer than you think, even with a 2 game lead over most of the league.

Big trades & injuries also affecting the outlook. CMC in SF. Breece Hall being lost for the season means James Robinson AND Travis Etienne owners are feeling good about their utilization.

To boot, we’re effectively running right into the first rematches of the season, effectively Week 8 being Week 1 matches all over again. After this some slight new matchups and then close out the season with a last batch of divisional rematches. There’s plenty of time to turn it around and here we will begin to see which teams can remain, wait for it, RESILIENT. BOOM. FULL CIRCLE. MIC DROP. I had a plan even if impromptu.

However, despite how razor thin the race is so far, there is an imposter amongst the playoff seeded teams so far. Take a look, seriously, it’s tight. 2 to 9 seeds are only separated by 67 points for on the season. That same range has an average separation from each other of…5 points. Just 5, through 7 weeks. The exception to that group? Cody. Cody is sitting at the 4 seed despite being 11th in points scored, with just over 100(!) points behind the 6 seed. So, naturally, I excluded his team from that 2 to 9 stat comparison because it would have really thrown the numbers off. Therefore, don’t give up yet, Spencer & Alex, because I have a feeling this will course correct soon giving you all an opportunity to slide in. The other anomaly, unfortunately, is myself. At 12th, I’m 100 points behind Cody in points scored. Which is bad, to put it lightly. Injuries be damned.

But you know what they say, it’s not about how you start, it’s about how you finish, and there is literally a whole 2nd half of regular season football left to play. That’s why you play the games, they also say. You play to win the game. The Bears are who we thought they were. I’m just trying to fill in as many cliche lines as possible here now.

Stats

Will return next week, sorry I really need to pack.

Week 8 & 2nd Half Preview

Barring any major injuries, I believe Fireball will probably retain his #1 seed this year, even if I think Jacobs will fall in the RB rankings into the next few weeks. The offense is balanced, and if Sutton & Johnson are top 30 in fantasy WRs with horrible QB play, not to mention Diggs on that team, he’ll stick around. OR I just cursed you, sorry Jason, it’s hex season.

Everyone else, I literally don’t even know, although I already mentioned that I think Cody’s team falters a bit. Now, my team is ASS but I truly have been ravaged by injuries this year. HOWEVER, I am entering Week 8 with my healthiest lineup since Week 1 where my team put up the 3rd highest points, so I’m going to give myself a 2nd half comeback.

Adam v Zach
Ben v Alex
Mike v Stefan
Fireball v Spencer
Ryan v Cody
Danny v Jay

To kick off the 2nd half, I’m rolling with Zach, Ben, Mike, Fireball, Ryan, myself. Sorry Jay.
