FFAC Recap - Week 13: In Time For Playoffs

timeangry.jpg

Look, I’m not going to lie to y’all, the motivation started high for consistent recaps and podcasts. 2020 did as 2020 does, and ultimately, I just couldn’t keep up, so I apologize for the gap. What I will do, however, is retire the podcast, and focus on the recaps.

With that, I’m still in time, albeit a little bit late, for FANTASY FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS.

Recap

Probably the biggest occurrence of the final week of the regular season was Jay getting in with all the right scenarios. I lost a heart-breaker to Cody, less than 1 point, to go 6-7, and Jay swooped in beating Ryan by a little less than 4 points. Exactly 4.48 points is what eliminated your commissioner’s playoff hopes, as all other long shot scenarios were not really close otherwise. Footage of my reaction losing my playoff spot on Monday night.

Still, we had a little shuffling of seeding as a result, but a moment of silence as we fade the following teams:

  • FantasyFootballTeam (Danny)

  • Big Trubisky (Zach)

  • Breesus Loves You (Adam)

  • LoveThe(Kenyan)Drake (Stefan)

  • kicked out champ (Kelly)

  • CovidSzn (Fireball)

Lucky for Fireball, he isn’t exactly a lock for the most disappointing team award (anti-award?) after it’s all said and done, because Ryan is still championship or bust.

Playoffs

Bacon division was insanely competitive this year, with 4 of the 6 playoff teams coming from there over 2 from Eggs. However, the 2 hottest teams entering the playoffs are from the latter, as Ben is riding a 4 game win streak, and Shelby a 3 game one. As for Cody, he continues to prove that it’s absolutely better to be lucky, and we’re all suckers. Yet, as Cody owned this season’s smallest average margin of victory, it’s actually Ben who had the easiest strength of schedule, with opponents only averaging 94.26 points against. Still, Cody and Ben are this years division champs. They’re also our top 2 seeds so, go figure. We’ll see what this means for playoffs now that the rest of us scrubs are out of the way.

(1) Cody - Bye
(2) Ben - Bye

MJ (3) vs. Jay (6) - Cam did absolutely no favors for Jay on Thursday night, only putting up 5.36 points, so it’s already looking pretty grim. It wouldn’t be that surprising, as roughly 200 points separate MJ from Jay in points scored this season, even with the #1 draft pick and last season’s #1 fantasy player on the sideline. It looks like Jay’s playoff moment will be short lived, as MJ’s impressive comeback season might prove too much. If MJ ends up pulling it out, with McCaffrey about to return again, it might be over already.

Ryan (4) vs. Shelby (5) - It’s actually kind of crazy how similar these to first round playoff matches are, because like MJ, Ryan also holds a roughly 160 point separation from Shelby in points scored for the season. I wouldn’t let that fool you, though, because while Shelby is streaking into the playoffs, Ryan stumbled the last 2 weeks on the way in. I expect this to be the closer of the 2 matches this week, as Ryan currently holds a -7.34 spread in the projections. We all know how those go. The tricky and potential x factor in this match is that Philly vs NO game, as Wentz is benched in favor of Jalen Hurts, and with both Goedert and Zach Ertz (who is back from injury) on Shelby’s roster it’s a bit of a dilemma as to who to start.

I’m going to go with MJ, and the upset, Shelby. Who technically is my preseason choice for 2020 Champ. It’s going to be awkward if that does happen, because Shelby would face Cody next week in this case, who I have admittedly stated would jump on that bandwagon. A problem for another day.

As for the consolation ladder, I’m down for putting like, some pocket change into that pot. And in place of 12 seed relegation, I’ve decided (but really up to y’all), that the 12th place team after consolation will have to do a spoken word & dance recreation of a music video chosen by the league, to then be uploaded to TikTok for the internet to enjoy.
