FFAC Precap: ‘23 & Me

If you’re wondering, no, we aren’t being sponsored by a biotech company (although hit me up, @23andme). But 2023 feels like…a year. Like a year of all time, you know?

‘23 is also the basketball GOAT, AND, in the US at least, the final day of the year is 123123 (shout out Jay for sending this totally facebook worthy meme post on IG like a true boomer, but at least it wasn’t in a LinkedIn message). ‘23 has also been the year of “good luck keeping a job” as basically everyone in this league either experienced one or was 1 degree separated. Don’t worry, FFAC is STRONG financially and no one should be worried about losing their team. I promise no fantasy football layoffs (this is feeling eerily familiar).

It was the first time in at least 4 years that we had 100% draft day attendance, and for that, I congratulate & thank you all! You know it was a good draft day when it seemed like no one was particularly thrilled about their team. Anywho, that’s the extent of the pleasantries you’ll get from me in this one, I’m scrambling to get to Ryan’s kick off!

Welcome to the 2023 FFAC Season!

Spencer stole Tom Brady’s retirement thunder and left a heartwarming post about leaving FFAC 1 year after being reinstated, to which Ryan promptly responded with the ole “i ain’t reading all that.” It was great. Alex also hit us with a 1 and done, but we thank them for their service. In swoops Pat Kane (yes, that Pat Kane) & Danny Serrano (technically Daniel so we don’t actually have the same name) to take those spots, marking the first time since 2019 that we have multiple rookies.

And Stefan. Stefan finally got over the hump, broke the curse of the bambino, and won the 2022 FFAC Championship(*). Congrats, Stefan!

That’s a loud, proud, & happy man if I’ve ever seen one!

I won’t bore you with any more ceremony, new season means new wild and definitely never ever wrong predictions!

Comeback Player of the Year

Adam

Our boy Rock ended up winning the consolation ladder in ‘22 but it was a disappointing season nonetheless. This year, with a solid D grade from Yahoo, I think Adam rides that newlywed high back into the playoffs. Either that, or married life is so happy he becomes blissfully unbothered by fantasy. Either way, the rest of the year is looking up for Adam.

Worst Team

Cody

I promise I’m not just trying to pick on you, Cody. But 2 years removed from a Championship, finishing 11th last season, AND with a wedding to plan, I simply think Cody will lose the FFAC narrative this time around. Not to mention, Yahoo gave him an A+ in the draft, which is way worse than any curse I could draft up here.

Rookie of the Year

Pat

No disrespect to Danny S, but coming off Jay’s referral I expected him to be prepared, and he was. Pat, on the other hand (once again, no disrespect intended) surprised me with solid Fantasy Football chops. I don’t know why, we watch other sports together. Throw in that league worst Yahoo draft grade of an F, Pat will exceed expectations. Mostly because you can only go up from here.

Call it abuse of power, I DON’T CARE. WHY DO YOU THINK THE PRECAP TITLE IS ‘23 & ME. That photoshopped picture of Taylor Swift in a football helmet is custom. That’s commitment. Although I almost gave this to Pat, because he hasn’t changed the team name from Spenny and I think that’s hilarious. Sue me.

CHAMPION

Ryan

Yep, I’m picking our first ever repeat Champion. A little squishy at WR but if even one of those rookies pans out, I think that shapes for a strong 2nd half of the season. Ryan took some swings, and I’m cursing rewarding him for it. You’re welcome, Ryan. Please don’t poison my food tonight.

Every0ne else? Go do something this season to MAKE me write about. You’ll all get a spotlight soon enough, though, careful what you wish for.
