FFAC Recap - Week 6: No Points

Well, not exactly no points, but there seemed to be very few of them to go around, as for the first time this season, the average score was under 100. In fact, as I mentioned in this weeks podcast, only 4 teams scored more than 100 points last week. Heck out of those remaining 8, 5 scored under 90.

Alas, players appear to be returning from some early season injuries, and bye’s don’t seem to be as rampant this time around. Also, almost everyone is still alive, so stay tuned for the grand return of PLAYOFF ODDS!!!

Recap

OK so most of us struggled to put up points, tell us something we don’t know, Danny. Fine, let’s start with those who didn’t find themselves in need. For the first time this season, despite leading everyone in points, MJ put up the highest score of the week. An easy 33 point victory over Kelly. To boot, CMC is almost back (got another week to go), so everyone seriously better watch out, because MJ’s luck might have just turned in his favor, 3 years in the making. Kelly is down to 1-5, but with 7 games to go and only 2 games back from a playoff spot, it’s not too late, but time is getting short.

Then, Ben demolishes Fireball by 74.78 points, our new largest blowout of the season. Fireball put up a pitiful 51.26 points and is the only other team besides Kelly that hasn’t broken the 600 point mark this season. That’s right, that means it’s an average points scored of under 100, which won’t cut it most weeks in any league, let alone ours. Still, at 2-4 Fireball technically has a better shot of staying alive.

Ryan continues his up and down season, but bounces back with a 42 point victory over Jay. Both sit at 3-3 but Ryan managed to bump Jay down as they are 6th and 7th now, respectively. Truly our 3-3 teams are smack dead center of the race. More on that shortly.

And for the only other 100 point game, Cody beats yours truly by 17.14, thanks very much in large part to Derrick Henry absolutely going off. Also I suppose having a RB in my starting lineup put up 0 points there didn’t help. Still, Cody has earned his top spot sitting above everyone at 5-1. I move to 2-4.

Stefan and his Titans continue to win, as he hands Adam his 2nd loss in 3 weeks. Not to fret, they’re both at 4-2 so it’s a momentous bragging right, but a bragging right nonetheless.

As for Zach and Shelby, it was a low scoring affair, as Zach eeks out the win by 8 points despite only scoring 86. Yet, that would have been enough to beat 3 other teams this week. Zach is at 3-3 and Shelby rounds out the 2-4s.

Stats

Avg Margin: 31.75
Biggest Blowout: 74.78 (Ben)
Closest Match: 8.7 (Zach)
High Score: 129 (MJ)
Low Score: 51.26 (Fireball, 2x)
Avg Score: 97.44
Best Player: 39.4 (Cody, Derrick Henry)

Preview

Here’s a fun stat that will shape the preview for the coming weeks; only 34 points separate the 1 seed from the 10th seed, and 60 points separate the 3rd highest score (excluding the 2 700 point scorers in Stefan & MJ) from the 10th highest. As if that wasn’t fun enough, only 2 games separate the 2 seed from the 11th seed. With 7 weeks to go, this just might be the tightest race with the most teams still realistically in it heading into Week 7 in this league’s history.

Besides the Cody (5-1) vs Jay (3-3) matchup, there aren’t really many scenarios that will result in a sudden separation of playoff hopefuls from the rest after this week. Which has me 1. very excited for content & 2. very anxious heading into the 2nd half. Godspeed, Spider-man.

MJ (+13) v Ryan
Zach (-21) v Adam
Stefan (+4) v Ben
Jay (+3) v Cody
Fireball (+13) v Shelby
Danny (-5) v Kelly

I’m going with Ryan, Adam, Ben, Cody, Shelby, & myself. Also I’ve been watching a lot of space and relative size videos so enjoy your existential crisis. Have fun!
