FFAC Precap: Boost 2022

What is reality?

What is normal?

What is fantasy football if not life?

In the year of our lord and savior (Beyoncé), many questions loom as to what the current state of our reality & normal are. If the last 3 years have taught us anything, is despite the ever looming threat of total societal collapse, the indomitable human spirit perseveres. Not in a “think positive” way but in a “things will be challenging but that doesn’t mean impossible” way. Sometimes you settle (for 4th place, we’re still talking football here), sometimes you take the L, and every so often, against all odds, you get a dub (hi Cody). So for all the challenges we have faced, this year we kick off the season on a positive note, looking to the possibilities of a fresh season, enjoying the journey we choose to embark on year after year. After all, isn’t that the point?

And what would a corny ass intro precap be if not a late one as the NFL season has actually kicked off? We bid farewell to a couple long time FFACers in Shelby and MJ, but welcomed fresh faces in Alex & Mike (both of whom attended in person for their first draft, brownie points). The league also moved to FAAB & removed an IR slot. Change, the ever constant.

Welcome to the 2022 FFAC Season!

Last season wrapped up in wild fashion as the top 2 seeds (Stefan and myself) were bounced in the 2nd round, and the previous champ in Ryan failed to even make the playoffs. Cody on the other hand peaked at the perfect time, riding Amon-Ra St. Brown to the finish line, becoming a first time FFAC Champ, defeating Jay in an intense final match. Too bad Jay’s team blew their load a week early, 171 points in the semis is a playoff record high points scored, but fell a few points short in the championship. Did we mention that Jay dropped St. Brown just before the playoffs? Sucks to suck. Congratulations Cody, and may the odds be ever not in your favor this season!

Ya boi really dropped the ball on the recap and pod front last year, but THE PAST IS IN THE PAST! It’s time for the way premature and often incorrect preseason awards!

Comeback Player of the Year

Zach

Zach dealt with a bit of bad luck on the injury front last year, but it wasn’t just that as basically any move he made did not work out, finishing 9th but with the fewest points for in the year. Back again with the #1 pick in the draft this season, and with the worst rated Yahoo draft grade, I believe Zach is primed for a big return to the playoffs this year.

Worst Team

Mike

It be your own family. I’m sorry to do this to a man who I share blood with, but with QB picks in the 5th AND 7th rounds, the league was absolutely FLABBERGASTED. He ended up turning it around a bit in the later rounds and even Yahoo put him in the middle of the pack this year, but we play no favorites here. I hope you prove me wrong (and I usually am with these).

Rookie of the Year

Alex

Look! We haven’t had a RotY award in a couple years! Obviously it couldn’t be Mike, so Alex it is. Now, Yahoo did give him an A- so I would tread carefully here, particularly after Cam Akers put up an absolute dud on Thursday night. There’s a pretty nasty stat about RBs with under 13 carries in week 1 historically having bad seasons, but I think Alex keeps his season competitive. Or maybe not, this could be a curse.

Silent But Deadly

Ben

Ben’s not actually that silent, but much like Zach last season, lots of injuries and 2nd worst points for. Missing the playoffs after back to back Championship appearances to start his FFAC career, Ben has proven he is a force to be reckoned with if left unchecked. I believe last season is an anomaly and Yahoo might actually have this one right with their B- draft grade.

Champion

Zach

This is mostly to try and curse Zach but like I mentioned with the Comeback Player analysis, Yahoo is notoriously bad at draft grade and preseason predictions, particularly in this league. Led by Jonathan Taylor and Josh Allen, Zach finally takes home the prize. Now, I have predicted Zach to win in the past, but I think this time he actually makes a run.

As for Spencer, Adam, Ryan, Stefan, Cody, Fireball, Jay & myself? Well boys, let’s go out there and make a name for ourselves. Don’t worry, the CMC injury news is nothing. No really, it’s nothing. Right Stefan? Right…

Week 1 Preview

Again, the season has already kicked off technically and as per usual, Fireball doesn’t have a K set. We’re nothing if not consistent, right?

Adam (+7.5) v Zach
Ben (-7.5) v Alex
Mike (+8) v Stefan
Fireball (-25!) v Spencer
Ryan (-5) v Cody
Danny (-4) v Jay

Maybe Spencer is actually going to be the worst team because gahdayum. I’m rolling with Zach, Ben, Stefan, Fireball, Cody, & myself (duh). We totally forgot to do League Pick’em but we’ll pick it up next week.

FFAC Nation! Let’s ride.
